PREMIÈRE: Peru’s Ati Lane Shows Her Fragility In Latest Video

By Valdomiro Valle 21 August, 2020

Simultaneous to the release of her second EP, Miedo, Amor y Vida, Peru’s Ati Lane presents a video for “Pieles”, a song that has been circulating for the past few weeks. What comes from Ati Lane, born Solange Santa Cruz, is a midpoint between the melancholy of Latin folk pop and the electric sound of rock and shoegaze, her songs offering a contrast between what the voice and guitars can express.

In the specific case of “Pieles” there is a certain cadence that brings the song closer to blues territory, giving the perfect sorrowful atmosphere that the lyrics need (“maybe I loved you without measuring / how much I gave you”).  The video, recorded in natural areas of Pachacamac, captures this whole concept, presenting us with a fragile Ati Lane, dressed in white and with a crown of thorns, radiating a purity that contrasts with the darkness in clothing and attitude of the musicians who accompany her.

Both the video for “Pieles” and the Miedo, Amor y Vida EP will be released on August 28. The latter, as the name suggests, further explores this notion of insecurities and pain as side effects of love throughout our lives.
