CON ALMA 29: Guacamayo Tropical

By 12 April, 2021

Colombian-Spanish duo Guacamayo Tropical are audiovisual artists who focus on rescuing and spreading Latin-American tradition worldwide. Their live sessions are characterised by the integration of digital beats with native Latin instruments such as Colombian gaita, tamboras and djembe, and traditional dances. And from this hybrid-music starting point, interactive and dynamic live shows are built, exploring projections, light and colour to further immerse their audience. Indeed, looking to counteract current “lightless, colorless and tasteless times”, they intend to “bring hearty, lively rhythms to flood the dance floor with a colorful wave made of love, joy and Cumbia”.

“This mix is a long journey through Cumbia created by producers and remixers around the world that value the drumming of rituals and a dancing style and ancient spiritual legacy which belongs to Latin America and the whole world. Explore these new creations, we fix it with the old rhythms and offer it up to the dance floor. We can’t wait to dance again with all the Guacamayo friends, we hope they remember us as the place to be, to feel and to find new good music.”

The Con Alma series is a mug of hot coffee served on Monday mornings, to start your week off right. An hour of musical soul food, downtempo undulations and freshly-squeezed groovers that’s good for the heart, mind and body. Although the series’ name is taken from Dizzy Gillespie’s Latin standard, don’t expect an hour of frenetic bebop – this is gentle introspection, warm sunrises, shower sing-a-longs… always with plenty of soul.
