CON ALMA 06: DOMATORNADOS
05 October, 2020Between his native Argentina and Barcelona, the producer and composer Guillermo Piacenza, who goes under the stage name DOMATORNADOS, weaves tapestries of meticulous “tech-dub trickery”. Rooted in Latin American rhythms but dressed up in European dance floor tradition, Piacenza’s productions – fit with shimmering dubs, shuffling drums and thick bass – have been released on labels such as BA’s Hipi Duki Muzik and ZZK Records, Barcelona’s Störung, and Amsterdam’s Frente Bolivarista. We’re excited to have him sit in for this week’s Con Alma.
Piacenza, deciding a short description does not suffice, has written a poem to accompany his mix. For him, its effect is lost in translation:
“Esperabas una humeante taza de cafe aromatico y una seleccion de canciones que te acompañen a encarrilarte en la distopía de este lunes pandemico y surreal.
Aun duermes y yo he preferido sonar en tus sueños.
No sabras si estas en la inmensidad de la Pampa o caminando sobre los Andes.
Antes que despiertes habras estado en los suburbios de San Pablo, en el puerto de Mar del Plata; habras sido testigo del amanecer en la Tierra del Fuego, te habran devorado los insectos en el Amazonas y habras sido sacrificado en Teotihuacan.
No sabras si las luces que te han encandilado eran de Bogota, Buenos Aires o de algún Dios sin nombre.
En el instante previo a entrar desnudo en la vigilia, la gota de magia bajo tu lengua te llevara bien despierto al lugar sin tiempo donde nace el Tiempo.

The Con Alma series is a mug of hot coffee served on Monday mornings, to start your week off right. An hour of musical soul food that’s good for the body. Although the series’ name is taken from Dizzy Gillespie’s Latin standard, don’t expect an hour of frenetic bebop – this is gentle introspection, warm sunrises, shower sing-a-longs… and always with plenty of soul.
