EXCLUSIVE: Grupo Cometa “Jogada Senil”

By 27 May, 2014

“Jogada Senil” is the first track to be released by Grupo Cometa, the latest project from one of our favourite Brazilian musicians and producers, Kassin. In this latest project he has teamed up with regular collaborators Alberto Continentino (bass), Stephane San Juan (drums), Danilo Andrade (keyboards) and Guilherme Monteiro (guitar), with Kassin himself on guitar.

The track is an instrumental gem, bursting with ideas. It brings forth the elements of samba, jazz and Brazilian pop that form the make-up of the band, while also sounding like something else entirely. It’s fair to say that we are very excited to hear the full album, which is currently being mixed. “Jogada Senil” was written by Alberto Continentino and was produced by Kassin and recorded and mixed by Renato Godoy at Studio Marini.

Kassin is based in Rio de Janeiro and has worked with important Brazilian musicians including Caetano Veloso, Los Hermanos, Adriana Calcanhotto and Jorge Maunter, to name just a few. He also records under his own name – his last album Sonhando Devagar is an absolute delight – as well as with the indie-meets-samba supergroup Orquestra Imperial. He recently worked on Gilles Peterson’s new Brazilian project, Sonzeira, as a co-producer [fellow Grupo Cometa members Stephane, Danilo and Guilherme also played on the album]. You can read our interview with Kassin about making that album, as well as his other projects here.
