New Music: Bio Ritmo’s ‘Oriza’

By 17 February, 2016

Though they’ve been at it for more than 20 years now, we introduced Bio Ritmo to our readers as “forward-thinking salsa” back in 2011. Well, the Richmond, Virginia -based outfit is still at it, and these wonderful remixes of a ‘lost’ track is a delight.

Bio Ritmo covers “Oriza,” a song by salsa and plena legend Rafael Cortijo y Su Combo (hear the original here).

According to Paris-based production team, Paris DJs, the cumbia-fied cover was “left out” from a recording session in 2013 that resulted in a digital singles, and, eventually, their 2014 album, Puerta Del Sur:

“Thankfully Peace & Rhythm Records — the label founded by internationally respected tastemaker DJs Andujar and Bongohead — released the tune at the end of 2015, backed by a dancefloor remix from [Boston DJ/producers] Whiskey Barons. An instant classic for the DJ bag!” We must agree.
