CON ALMA 31: Marlowe (Sonorama)

By 17 May, 2021

Created under the objective of promoting world roots music, and supercharged by their shared obsession with vinyl culture, Sonorama is a Chicago-based DJ collective and record label fronted by Charly Garcia, Eddy Baca & Marlowe Baca. In early 2015 the trio launched Sonorama Discos, marking their interest in seeking and releasing contemporary music with similar proclivities to Latin America’s sonic past and an ear for boundary-breaking present.

“Marlowe dives into the softer and more relaxed B-side grooves that, while sometimes overlooked, are packed with infectious potential that can calm and relax while also making you move. We travel to various countries like Peru, Cuba, Spain, and even Ecuador which all had their distinct moments during the 60s-70s. You’ll also hear various bands exploring reimagined covers showing true appreciation for the original tracks. Sit back and enjoy this fresh roasted blend of some of Marlowe’s best kept secrets.”

The Con Alma series is a mug of hot coffee served fortnightly on Monday mornings, to start your week off right. An hour of musical soul food, downtempo undulations and freshly-squeezed groovers that’s good for the heart, mind and body. Although the series’ name is taken from Dizzy Gillespie’s Latin standard, don’t expect an hour of frenetic bebop – this is gentle introspection, warm sunrises, shower sing-a-longs… always with plenty of soul.
