Paramecio James’ Cumbia House Mixtape

By 03 May, 2012

I have to admit I was a little sceptical when I first started playing this mix, and heard the familiar repetitive house beats. Dance music has a habit of being very dreary to listen to – it’s function to make people dance ensuring repeated listens at home are not always required. Which is what makes Paramecio James’ Cumbia House Mixtape so damn thrilling. The huge house beats are there, but with a cumbia inflection, and with accordions driving the melody, swirls of electronic special effects in the background and snatches of vocals, it makes for one of the most up-front and riveting mixtapes we’ve featured on Sounds and Colours. This is a mix to shake the floorboards and annoy the neighbours come Saturday night.

We know very little about Paramecio James other than he’s one half of Paramecio Records, a Colombian label that doesn’t appear to have any releases as of yet, but do have another mix available on their Soundcloud page.
