CéU, Do Amor, Luisa Maita and Orquestra da Olinda coming to London!

By 30 June, 2011

July is shaping up to be one very Brazilian month in London with a number of the best up-and-coming artists coming to the capital. Over the space of just two weeks CéU, Do Amor, Orquestra Contemporanea da Olinda and Luisa Maita will all be performing.

Do Amor are one of the most interesting groups in quite some time to come out of Brazil. Mixing samba, pop and indie influences with a highly-rhythmic approach it’s about time they got popular outside of their own country. With their debut show at Notting Hill Arts Club – where they will be joined by the Chileans Cuchufleta as well as Movimientos DJs – they may well achieve that.

Orquestra Contemporânea da Olinda will be playing two free shows as part of the Blaze festival, where they will be joined by a number of brass-wielding, dancing, singing groups. Whoever they are playing with doesn’t really matter anyhow, Orquestra da Olinda are without doubt one of the best live groups in Brazil and you’ll be a fool to miss them.

CéU will also be making her third appearance in London. Currently sitting pretty as the reigning Queen of New Brazilian Music this should also be a great excuse to hit the live scene. Expect great voice, great songs, great bands and some ever-so-sultry stage presence.

Also performing in this mini-marathon of new Brazilian-ness will be Luisa Maita, who is one of our favourite Sao Paulo-based singers. Have a read on our article on Luisa here, and also check out her favourite records. Also playing will be Luiz Gabriel Lopes of Graveola e o Lixo Polifonico playing an acoustic set at Made in Brasil on July 18th, and one of the bands that started it all; Os Mutantes will be playing at the Jazz Cafe on the 18th and 19th July.
