New Quantic Album Announced + Video Filmed In Colombia

By 30 January, 2014

We got a little bit excited when we saw the latest video from Will “Quantic” Holland. Not only was it because the video represented new music from one of our favourite producers or that it came with the news that the new Quantic album will be out on May 5th, but mainly it was because the video left us drooling all over the floor!

Filmed by B+ (of the amazing Mochilla label/collective) at two Colombian festivals – the busy, colourful and all-out hedonism of Barranquilla carnival, and the more subdued (though no less riotous) Nuqui Festival in Nuqui, Chocó (on Colombia’s Pacific Coast) – the video is a paean to the Colombian party, a beautiful meeting point of music, tradition and dance. As someone who was at Nuqui Festival when the video was being filmed I can confirm that the party really was as good as it looks. And S&C’s Gina Vergel can certainly attest to the magic of Barranquilla carnival too!

“Duvidó” features the Angolan-born, Portugal-based singer Pongo Love as well as layers of Colombian marimba, Angolan guitar and the kind of detailed electronic beats that helped put Quantic on the map all those years ago. The track is taken from the forthcoming album Magnetica which will be released on May 5th by Tru Thoughts. Other guest stars on the album, which will surely mix rhythms from Colombia, Brazil, Africa, Jamaica and the UK in all the right proportions, include Alice Russell, Shinehead, Nidia Gongora, Dereb The Ambassador, Thalma De Freitas and Anibal Velásquez.

Magnetica will be released on May 5th and can be pre-ordered from iTunes or direct from Tru Thoughts
